# Finantr > Finantr is a UK mobile app for Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax, built for self-employed people (sole traders). It connects to a user's bank through Open Banking, works out their income tax and Class 4 National Insurance as money comes in, finds allowable expenses, and sends quarterly updates to HMRC. It is made by Finantr Ltd (company number 17154089, registered in England and Wales). Status on 3 October 2026: Finantr is in final testing and takes sign-ups through a waitlist at https://finantr.com/#waitlist. HMRC production approval is in progress, so Finantr is not yet on HMRC's list of recognised software. The free tools below do not depend on that approval. Landlords (property income) are not supported for filing yet. ## What it does - Tax Clock: a live estimate of income tax and Class 4 National Insurance for the current tax year, recalculated as transactions arrive. Handles the personal allowance taper above £100,000, Scottish rates, and other income such as a salary or pension. - Safe to Spend: one figure for how much of the user's bank balance is theirs after tax is set aside. - Found Money: lists likely allowable business expenses from bank transactions, grouped by HMRC category. Nothing counts until the user confirms it. - Income statements: a PDF of income for 3, 6 or 12 months with a QR code that a lender or letting agent can check at https://finantr.com/verify. - Calendar sync: quarterly deadlines and payment dates in Apple, Google or Outlook Calendar. - Accountant access: free read-only access for the user's accountant, with every view logged. - Mileage and working-from-home calculators using HMRC simplified expenses. - MTD status: tells the user whether MTD applies to them now, from April 2027 or from April 2028. - Quarterly updates: built from confirmed records and sent to HMRC through the MTD APIs (paid plans). ## Pricing - Free: all the tools above except sending updates to HMRC. One bank account. No card needed. - Individual: £8.99 a month. Adds quarterly updates sent to HMRC. 30-day free trial. - Multi-Income: £14.99 a month. Each update covers the tax year so far, from 6 April. - The 2026-27 tax return and any payment are due by 31 January 2028. - HMRC said about 864,000 sole traders and landlords were due to join in April 2026. - Source: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/check-if-youre-eligible-for-making-tax-digital-for-income-tax ## Worked example (2026-27, England, Wales and Northern Ireland) A self-employed profit of £45,000 with no other income gives about £6,486 income tax and £1,946 Class 4 National Insurance, £8,432 in total, which is about 19% of profit. With Scottish rates the income tax is about £6,882, so the total is about £8,828. These are estimates, not tax advice. ## Security and privacy - Bank access is read-only through TrueLayer, which is authorised by the FCA. Finantr cannot move money and does not see bank logins. - Bank and HMRC tokens and National Insurance numbers are encrypted at rest with AES-256. - A model suggests a category for each transaction. Only expenses the user confirms are sent to HMRC. - Users can delete their account in the app. Financial data is erased within 30 days, apart from records the law requires. - Finantr is not a regulated financial adviser and does not give tax advice. ## Pages - [Home](https://finantr.com/): product, free tools, pricing and questions - [Check when MTD applies and how much to set aside](https://finantr.com/#tools): two free calculators, no account needed - [Pricing](https://finantr.com/#pricing) - [Questions](https://finantr.com/#faq) - [Check an income statement](https://finantr.com/verify) - [Privacy policy](https://finantr.com/privacy) - [Terms of service](https://finantr.com/terms) ## Contact - Support: help@finantr.com - Partnerships and accountants: partners@finantr.com - Finantr Ltd, Portland House, Belmont Business Park, Durham DH1 1TW, United Kingdom - LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/finantr
