Questions
Who can claim statutory interest?
A business owed money by another business or by a public body, when the contract does not set its own remedy for late payment. It does not apply to debts owed by consumers.
How do I claim it?
Tell the customer in writing that you are claiming interest and compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998, with the amount. Finantr can draft the email for you.
What are the fixed sums?
£40 for a debt under £1,000, £70 for £1,000 to £9,999.99, and £100 for £10,000 or more. You can claim reasonable extra recovery costs on top.
